Transamerican Love Story premieres Monday 11 February at 10pm

Logo has scheduled the series premiere of Transamerican Love Story for Monday 11 February at 10pm, with new episodes each week. They are leading in with Ma Vie En Rose, one of the best films about gender variance ever made.

Transamerican Love Story is a competitive dating show that follows my friend Calpernia Addams as she narrows eight bachelors down to one winner. Alec Mapa hosts, and I am the sassy friend who says mean things about the guys.

For night owls, it airs again Monday at 1am, then repeats throughout the week:

Mondays 10 pm and 1am

Tuesdays at 7pm and 4am

Thursdays at 8am (with special airings Valentine’s Day only at 4pm and 9pm)

Fridays at 12:30pm

Various times on weekends. Check your local listings.

I match “anal sex” in Wikia Search!

OK, so Wikia Search opened its alpha release up today. Naysayers lined up around the block to talk about how bad the results are, not understanding Wikia released a way to build a search engine with open source, not a finished product. I checked a few things out, made a disambiguation between me and some of the other cool women named Andrea James out there. I typed in the uberspam word ”viagra” and of course a spammer had already added a link to his site in the Mini-Article.

However, my favorite was when I started typing in other sex-related words (sex is of course a top search query). My profile came up as related on all of them. So if you type in “anal sex,” I come up as one of the the “people matching ‘anal sex.’” See the helpful screenshot above.

If that’s not an accomplishment, I don’t know what is.

A few caricatures of me

One of the great things about working in advertising was being around a lot of very sarcastic and creative people. To make meetings less boring, we drew a lot of doodles of each other. I just found a few of the better ones I saved. Mine usually had a theme: my bony ass or ill-fitting clothes, or a facial expression I would make when presenting a script. In the top one, I was mocked for bragging about finally finding sleeves long enough, then I washed the top and it shrunk. I know who did the one of me with scripts ( ::cough:: ::matt:: ::cough:: ) because it is on the back of an especially hacky anti-smoking PSA written by another pal. The last one was from when I was in my librarian on crack look with these imposing nerd glasses. Good times.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

It’s the rare film that can capture the visceral sense of fading in and out of consciousness from first-person POV, but this film not only does that, it also gives the slightest sense of how difficult it must be to have full awareness yet be completely unable to move (save one eyelid). That Mr. Bauby was able to write a book in that state is simply astonishing, and a testament to his caregivers. This is the most finely crafted film I have seen since No Country for Old Men. Just amazing. It’s up for a bunch of well-deserved awards and is definitely worth seeing.
