Flyer: Ma Vie En Rose/Queens at Heart screening 11/19 in Hollywood

October 21st, 2008

Andrea James

Here’s the flyer for an upcoming event I’m hosting: a screening of one of my favorite trans-themed films of all time! We’ll also be showing a quick clip of Queens at Heart, one of Outfest’s film restoration projects this year.

Please share this flyer with anyone who might be interested!

Wednesday, November 19 6:30pm Absolut pre-reception 7:30pm screening

MA VIE EN ROSE

Dir. Alain Berliner, 1997, France/Belgium/UK, 88 min.

Ludo, a sensitive child assigned as a boy at birth, does not identify as a boy and hopes for a miraculous transformation into a girl. Ludo’s family soon realizes this isn’t a role-playing fantasy. Conflicts with teachers, neighbors, friends, and each other culminate in a moving, hopeful ending.

We’ll be having a cocktail reception before the film, so come a little early, enjoy some delicious Absolut drinks (or water for you teetotalers), and enjoy a really lovely film that’s even better on the big screen! Two important films in our community’s history, and a party! What’s not to love?

American Cinematheque at The Egyptian Theatre

6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA 90028

$7 Outfest members

$10 non-members

Remember Me In Red event

October 18th, 2008

More photos soon, but we had a great ‘Remember Me In Red’ fundraising event last night at a beautiful home in the Hollywood hills. They could still use your help, though, so if you want to support a great film about and starring Latina trans women, check out their site and donate:

Remember Me in Red event October 18

October 11th, 2008

Andrea James

Filmmaker Hector Ceballos is working on a new film and is looking for people who can support the project. It’s called Remember Me in Red. He writes:

I am fundraising for my thesis project which is about a transgender woman named Alma Flora who dies and the conflict that occurs before her burial. Her best friend Fidelia arranges a tribute to her friend’s life as a woman, but when the family arrives unexpectedly from Mexico they make the choice to bury Alma Flora as a man. My lead is Mariana Marroquin. Maria Roman of Trantasia fame is playing Alma Flora.

If you’d like to support the project, there’s a fundraiser on the 18th. Email Hector for details

Nice writeup on Trans for Obama at GLAAD

October 10th, 2008

Andrea James

The GLAAD blog has a great writeup of the transgender community’s contributions to the Obama campaign, by Mik Kinkead, GLAAD’s Transgender Advocacy Fellow.

Thanks to Helen Boyd and Caprice Bellefleur for all the work they did on this, as well as our allies at Stonewall Democrats and Obama Pride! From the Obama Pride website:

Obama Pride is honored by the enthusiastic support of so many in the transgender community and we congratulate all the participants…for their huge success!

Let’s keep the momentum going! As Hellen Boyd said, let’s make the trans community go “from being politically invisible to politically viable.”
